10 Reasons Why Your Greatest Event Planning Strategy = Eco-Friendly

December 3, 2017

10 Reasons Why Your Greatest Event

Planning Strategy = Eco-Friendly

By Terrever©

So, you're putting together the event using your usual planning routine. Lists, spreadsheets, phone calls, calculations and your usual stores carrying the usual cups and napkins. While this works in the usual sense, what about the bigger picture? The much bigger picture. The global picture. It's something we think about when separating the trash, but barely scratch the surface when creating that dream event. Why should you? I'm glad you asked…the following are 10 reasons why (well, 1 is more of a" how") making your event eco-friendly is the greatest move.

  1. Let’s be honest, it boosts your image:  You're reading this so you're likely one of the few that actually invests time, money, and effort into thinking about others. Often thankless, there's nothing wrong with enjoying the look and feel of a true altruist. I mean, it was the altruists that created civilizations.  There's nothing wrong with a fair amount of self-love and self-praise. We celebrate those 'heroes' of the modern age that had no issue lauding their individual successes, even imitating them. That which appeals to us most, is that which affects us most.  If I am not healthy and alive and confident in what I do, how can I help those around me to my fullest potential? I say, let's let yourself shine while helping others in the process, why can't WE be heroes?

  2. Socially responsibility: "Transcend the moment." Without the Earth, there is no us. Thus, helping the Earth, helps ourselves. We don’t need to tell you that helping the earth is a good thing. Now that that is out of the way, we can focus on the thing that got us all here: the collective benefit. For centuries we have cared about the Earth in the context of what it can do for us. But what happens when you cannot distinguish between helping ourselves and helping the Earth? This is a valid concern as we do not typically see the immediate impact on the Earth like we do ourselves. How do we not just slip into a collective groupthink? This is at the center of what divides environmentalist, business owners, politicians, and the everyone else regarding this subject. Perhaps, it’s more about the 'feeling' of doing something that resonates through the world whether the world recognizes it or not.

  3. Adds a great 'vibe': Now that scene is set and you've got things down, the finest details you realize there's only so much you can control and your event is in the hands of the party-Gods. No matter how the event goes or who gets drunk, who decides to cry in the bathroom or who chooses your event to tell Betty how they REALLY feel you can walk away from this knowing that a contribution was made. Think of being eco-friendly as a modern form of insurance.

  4. Save time while adding knowledge hiring Terrever©: Plug alert! Terrever© is a great way to boost your knowledge-base while saving oodles of time. Terrever© offers assessments to measure, score and boost the eco-friendliness of your event while saving countless hours that can go toward making sure you ordered enough macaroons and the band's lyrics aren't NSFW.  What do you get, you ask? An Online or 1-on-1 customized assessment of your event with easy to understand recommendations from Sustainability experts, cool right?! Check them out at https://terreverco.wixsite.com/terrever

  5. Puts some proof behind your words: We get it, you recycle. Your socks are made of hemp and your car runs on leftover oil from the local farmer's market. Maybe not, but you are free with your words when it comes to environmental awareness. Now is the time to show people what it means to manifest those words. Hey, maybe it'll catch on.

  6. Makes your event unique: Right now, the idea of an 'eco-friendly' event is still fairly novel. Sure, it comes up in conversation but to have a formalized structure for measuring and implementing eco-friendly alternatives (eco-alts), such as replacing plastic straws with a reusable version, to an event, isn’t mainstream. What better way to make your event memorable than give others something positive to talk about and influence into something bigger.

  7. Saves Cash (sometimes): Who doesn't want to save a few bucks right? You save 100% of the money you don't; spend and everything you already own is free.  It doesn’t take a genius to figure out this equates to reduced output of cash and cash in your pocket (assuming you had the cash to begin with). Tight budgets can ruin, an otherwise fun, event. The main tenants of eco-alts are revolved around lowering the impact on the earth and on your wallet. Reduce, reuse, etc., is a philosophy revolving around prioritizing a deeper meaning to life over the ego. People care more about who you are than what you anyway.

  8. Fosters Eco-friendly consumer behavior in others:  Uncle Tony rolls his eyes when he hears to words ‘climate change’ but he's got no issue using the recycle bin, consider this a win! Naysayer or hard lined sustainability expert, sharing knowledge and showing how easy, and in some cases cheaper, to implement sustainable choices is a great thing for everyone. Sparks can be set off when something is seen and touched in real-life.

  9. Fosters Eco-friendly consumer behavior in your future: Nothing like an event to stir some creative ideas about table settings and curtain accents, but what about habits that help the world forever? Well, ensuring your event is eco-friendly can bring about that creative side not just in the looks but give a deeper meaning to the things you consume on a daily basis. While it’s not going to turn you into a tree-hugging saint, it will be a catalyst going forward.

  10. It's better than doing nothing: ok, so whether you believe in climate change, the ozone layer, or flat earth, you hate seeing trash where it doesn’t belong, paying high prices for 'new' things when alts are just as good, or that one guy that thinks the sound of his car speakers are more important than your sleep. You don’t have to be a climate-freak to want this earth to look, feel, and be the best possible. The earth isn’t bullet proof and good, bad or ugly we humans do have SOME impact on it, why not try to help out the thing that gave us the food we eat and the air we breathe? It's all about how you feel, not what others want you to feel. Let’s choose feeling good.

Greening Up Events

March 31, 2018

One of our outreach programs is working with event planners who create green or any type of events such as weddings, reunions, large business conferences, beach clean ups, habitat restorations or even an earth day celebration. Often, these events face challenges in single use products usage due to the high demand from visitors.

Time, multiple constraints, economics or personnel challenges can complicate the access to more sustainable solutions for these events as well.

At Terrever, we want to work with these planners and events to help recreate the thought process and decision making for choosing more eco-friendly products and solutions.

One simple way is using multiple communication platforms to ensure the community is armed with knowledge for day of requirements, like bring your own reusables, which can help reduce waste. Or utilizing technology to reduce paper waste. And using face to face and hands-on experiences, which can be rare these days, to enhance and empower an individuals experience.

Terrever will analyze each events needs to develop personalized solutions. Contact us today to see how we can help you with your upcoming event.

Be the change.
