In this post, we are going to review the Zero Waste Bathroom.

List of items to transition:

Shampoo/Conditioner

Body Wash

Toothpaste

Mouthwash

Hair Products

Scrubbers/Puffs/etc

Shaving

Lotions

Toilet Paper

Cleaning Products

Floss

Step 1:

Always use up or donate what products you currently have - Do not throw them away!!!

Step 2:

Decide what type of time and money investment you are able and willing to do. What do I mean? Are you going to do Zero Waste and/or Do It Yourself?

Zero Waste Example - using refillable containers to obtain products

DIY - Make your own

Cost Considerations:

Zero Waste -

Mason Jars (various sizes)

Reusable Bags

Reusable Tote Bags

DIY -

Same as above

Ingredients (cocoa butter, various essential oils, base oils,...)

Tip - Research the costs of these items in your local stores or bulk purchase if you are going to go outside of your own family and do gifts.

Step 3 -

Transition baby step by baby step to figure out what works for you and your family. Inclusive of time and money considerations.

Easy to tackle transition items:

Toothpaste -

Baking soda, peppermint oil, clay and coconut oil

Mix together in small mason jar

Use a spoon to put it on your toothbrush to not transfer bacteria

Mouthwash -

Water, Peppermint oil, Baking Soda, Tea Tree Oil

Mix in small mason jar and keep in fridge for extra zing

Hair serums -

One is: aloe vera, veggie glycerine, coconut oil and agave nectar

Second one is: lavender oil, castor oil

Aloe Gel and Lavender: Mixed feelings on this.

Or just pure Argan oil only

Scrubs -

Brown Sugar, Coconut oil, Lavender essential oil - mix, shake and put into a small container

Brown Sugar, Coconut Oil, Orange essential oil - mix, shake and put into a small container - invigorating

Toilet Paper -

TBD

Some bloggers post about using reusable scraps of clothes. Right now, I use 100% recycled toilet paper. Find it at Trader Joe's.

Shaving -

Merkur (Still transitioning) - Merkur Long Handled Safety Razor (MK 23C)

Shark Razor Blades (Still transitioning) - 100 Shark Super Stainless Straight Edge Barber Razor Blades for Professional Barber Razors

Shaving Cream - Williams Mug Shaving Soap, 3 Count

Use bar shave soap; good lather.

Cleaning Products -

Reusable Containers (old spray bottle)

White Vinegar, Water

Reusable Cloth

Products I buy bulk:

Shampoo/Conditioner

Bubble bath (Thank goodness my store has this....)

Body Wash

Epsom Salts

Cleaning products

Lotion

Plaine Products is offering a subscription program for Shampoo and Conditioner.
