Microfibers and You

Everyday we are discovering what our industrial and socially engineered demands do to our beautifully balanced home named Earth.
Another 'discovery' has been recently focused on is the microfibers that are escaping from washing machines and into our oceans from textiles. Our fleeces, fast fashion, workout gear, poorly made, yet cheap garments, textiles, gear.
Small synthetic particles which are not captured in the machines current filters are in the oceans, water supplies and fauna. Once ingested, what will do to us, other fauna and the future of health?
Industries reaction has been very slow and some investment for research has occurred. Many high-profile companies that have the resources to change their supply or production of synthetics have rather advocated for installing "new" filters in washing machines to capture said particles. Isn't this just producing more and more plastic? What about utilizing the innovation across the globe to find an alternative? What about the products we use to wash our clothes? Do the chemicals make the shedding of these particles even more rapid? Is it year of manufacture dependent? Is this a more recent contamination?
What can we do until industry changes?
Research what your clothes are made of and the washing guidelines with gentle or more natural washing products.
Wash less.
Buy/invest in quality clothing.
Individual needs and constraints make decisions dynamic and unique. If a certain outfit will get you that job and feed your family, you know the sacrifice that needs to be made. Working together and knowing how we all can contribute will eventually change demand and supply.
Be the change you want to see.
Us here at Terrever are following the developments closely and will update with advancements when available.
